Believe me, I’ve been there.
I know what it’s like to be the parent of a struggling child. Because I’ve been through it – twice.
I know the feeling of confusion watching a child grow to dislike school, even when it was never an issue ever before.
I know what it’s like fighting over homework and the tears that follow.
I know the frustration from hearing teachers complain about your child who you know to be a great kid.
I know the feeling that no one, particularly the schools, really understands your child’s struggle.
I know the strain this causes between parents.
I know what it’s like not having the faintest idea what to do next.
Even with my background as a special educator, I was at a loss. Over time, I figured out how to advocate for both of my children so they could succeed in school. I learned how to navigate the bureaucratic maze that is a school system. I learned who to talk to, what to say, how to say it.
It was an eye-opening experience. As a result, I decided to share my new-found knowledge with other parents so they don’t have to go through quite so much anguish. Since then I have continued building my skillset by completing advocacy-related leadership trainings and attending seminars. I’ve used my expertise to help numerous parents in my own community and workplaces.
I was, and still am, my children’s best advocate. I can be one for you too. Your child has rights, no matter what his or her learning needs are.
As your parent advocate, I can help you, your child and your family.
With me at your side, you’re not alone. I’ve been there. And with the right plan, there’s hope.
